DO YOU KNOW WHAT CAUSES A STROKE? When the arteries of the brain or neck have become hardened or blocked, a person is at risk of a stroke. In other cases, a severe injury to the neck could sever arteries causing a stroke or a blood clot from another part of the body may travel to the neck or brain and cause a stroke. A person’s daily habits, however, are the main culprit of arteries hardening: smoking, drinking alcohol excessively, eating dairy, eating meat and vitamin B deficiency. The largest percentage of strokes are caused by these lifestyle choices. Here at Soft Touch Chiropractic in Northridge, CA, I have treated my fair share of patients who show up with the signs of being at risk for stroke.

Two weeks after consistent adjustments, I realized that I was still foggy-headed and I was suffering from major confusion. I was very impatient and I had to put a hold on all the continued education seminars I teach to other chiropractors. I remembered all the advice I normally give my patients and I put it into practice.
After major trauma, such as a car accident, the body is flooded with endorphin and enkephalin hormones, which act as natural pain killers. Our bodies are intelligently designed to respond to trauma by releasing hormones to deal with damage. Cortisol, the stress hormone, is also released by the body after trauma. Excessive cortisol breaks down brain cells. These hormones can linger in the body and cause foggy-headedness and confusion.
Here are four tips to help your body detox from the excess hormones produced after a car accident or major trauma:
- Meditate ½ hour per day. Even after the accident is over, our brains tend to play back the scene of the accident, putting our bodies in the fight or flight response mode, thus releasing more hormones. Mindful meditation will help to calm down the mind and relax the body.
- Get chiropractic care immediately. Chiropractic adjustments will release all joint dysfunction caused by the accident, which continue to produce unwanted chemicals and cause muscle spasms.
- Go on a plant-based diet and drink lots of fluids. The greener and fresher your diet, the better.
- Work on your breathing. Most of the time, when we are taught about deep, conscious breathing, we are instructed to breathe all the way to the bottom of our lungs so that our bellies expand, but the depth of exhalation is the part of the breath that squeezes the lungs and “exercises” the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is responsible for clearing out all excess hormones and detoxing the body. The more you empty out your lungs by exhaling, the better it is for the lymphatic system and overall detoxification of your body. So breathe consciously and exhale deeply several times a day. The more the merrier, but do it while you are stationary and never while driving a car or operating machinery. Watch the videos below for instructions.

Are you suffering from neck pain?
If you are receiving this message, you have already experienced the relief that comes from getting a neck adjustment; and did you know that there is one simple thing you can do at home to avoid chronic neck pain?
The sirens quickly become louder, then there is a loud crash and you are thrust forward as a car violently plows into yours. As your brain tries to make sense of what just happened, you see two police officers pulling a man out of the car that just crashed into yours. The perpetrator looks over and you lock eyes with him. The terrifying yet stoic look on his face is imprinted in your mind.
Following the accident, you can't sleep and when you manage to get some rest, you have nightmares. Focusing on anything becomes increasingly difficult and depression begins to set in. You essentially experience post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) without being able to shake the memory of the car accident.
This is the real-life case of a patient in my practice. Most of us generally relate PTSD to war veterans or victims of of domestic abuse. However, PTSD after a car accident is more common than publicized. Chiropractic care after an accident is vital to the healing, but in the case of PTSD, a person will benefit from taking Vitamin B3, also known as Inositol.
Studies have shown that Vitamin B3 in large doses will reduce the symptoms of PTSD.
If have been in a car accident and you are experiencing, even mild symptoms of PTSD, we recommend you visit your local chiropractor and add Vitamin B3 to your line of supplements.

After 15 years of treating patients, it is my experience that, most of the time, a mattress is not the reason a person wakes up with back pain. The real culprit is the emotional state a person is in right before going to bed. Things like: having a fight with your spouse and not getting resolved, watching the news, mentally replaying a bad situation which happened during the day or not forgiving, cause the muscles of the body to contract. This means that the body is sleeping in a state of stress and the muscles are contracted for 6-8 hours. This is what causes back pain. The same happens in the case of car accidents. A person involved in an accident might have mild or no pain at all, but the emotional shock causes muscle contraction, not allowing the person to truly rest. In my office located in Porter Ranch, CA, 25-30% of back pain is caused by this phenomenon which we call emotional subluxations.
Make it a practice to do an emotional check up before going to bed. Release all emotion by praying, meditating, journaling, resolving conflicts with your loved ones or talking to a friend. Create a calming environment and bedtime routine for yourself by skipping the news channels, reading or watching something inspirational and drinking chamomile tea. If your back pain is consistent, call your local chiropractor and make an appointment today.
