For 15 years I have been treating patients, in Porter Ranch, CA, whose pelvises are rotated to the point that one leg appears to be shorter than the other. They come to me with moderate to severe low back pain, upper back stiffness, headaches and an overall feeling of malaise. I have recently reaffirmed that adjusting the pelvis to alleviate the symptoms and to restore balance is not the only solution to this problem. Adjustments on the feet and ankles to ensure proper alignment, help the pelvis, knees and ankles keep their integrity after an adjustment. This is the true foundation of the spine. If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, visit your local chiropractor. If you are in the Porter Ranch/Northridge, CA area or surrounding cities, call Soft Touch Chiropractic today to make an appointment. 818-831-0100

Front of Shoulder Pain Most of the people who come to my office complaining of shoulder problems, point to the base of their neck or the top of their arm and that's what they call a shoulder problem. However, one the most common shoulder problems is generally located in the front of our bodies at each end of our collarbone. The collarbone is the bone which is most often fractured. When the fracture heals, few doctors pay attention to the joints that have suffered trauma at each end of the collar bone, mainly the joint that is close to our sternum called the sternoclavicular joint and also the joint that is close to our arm socket. The best way to find out if these joints have issues is by evaluating the range of motion of the shoulder. To check the range of motion, raise your arm away from your body. This movement is known as abduction. If you cannot raise your arm above your head, there is a loss in the range of motion and the joint has problems. Here are other ways to check for trauma: 1. Compare arms. Raise both arms away from the body. If one doesn't raise quite as high as the other, you know you have an issue. 2. Compare the movement of the sternoclavicular joints. Again, raise your arms and notice the movement on both sides. If they are not moving in the same way, one side may be restricted. 3. The sternoclavicular joints should be at the same level. If you cannot spot any abnormalities while looking in a mirror, chances are the joints are level. 4. There may be pain close the sternum. 5. There may be tenderness in the area of the sternoclavicular joints. If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, call your chiropractor. He or she is educated in manipulating these joints. The manipulation of the sternoclavicular joint or the socket joint is not like the adjustment of the spine. There may be no cracking or popping sounds because the adjustment is more sophisticated and delicate. In our office, we use an instrument to adjust this joint which is softer and more precise. Terrorist attacks. Wars. And now the bird flu. It’s virtually impossible to pick up a newspaper or turn on the television without some disaster, disease or pestilence gripping you with fear. Many of the news reports we read, watch and hear are legitimate andworthy of concern. Some, however, are generated by those who simplywant to take advantage of the world’s increasingly fearful point of view.Let’s face it: Fear sells. But we can’t just blame external forces. A substantial amount of fear is self-generated by our own psyches:We truly can be our own worst ene- mies. The Effects of Fear A little fear is natural, but too much fear can have serious effects on your physical and emotional well-being.The Spinal Connection According to Dr.Shamaeizadeh, fear is an emotional cause of vertebral subluxations, spinal dysfunctions that are linked with disease. Doctors of chiropractic correct vertebral subluxations with safe and gentle maneuvers called chiropractic adjustments. However, chiropractors also focus on preventing subluxations to begin with. This focus on prevention makes chiropractic unique. Researchers from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta agree that fear deteriorates wellness. They concluded that “the inability to suppress excessive fear or anxiety is a significant clinical problem.” (Biol Psychiatry 2005;57:1559-64.) That’s why Dr. Shamaeizadeh urges patients to carefully monitor their internal “fear meters” and prevent this powerful emotion from taking over their lives. We've all heard it. The cracking of joints, either ours or someone else's. What is making the cracking noise? The short answer is that there is an exchange of gases when the joint is moved or adjusted. Expansion of the synovial membrane inside the joint will release nitrogen gas trapped inside. Why is there nitrogen gas trapped in the joints? Because the proteins inside the joints degenerate into amino acids and then further into amin group and lastly they break down into nitrogen gas. The more the joint is fixated or stressed (aka sublaxated) the more degeneration is happening there. Dr. Masoud Shamaeizadeh's DC goal here at Soft Touch Chiropractic in Porter Ranch is to relieve joint stress and introduce motion. Dr. Masoud Shamaeizadeh of Soft Touch Chiropractic in Porter Ranch, CA produced the video below to accompany this post. When our bodies are imbalanced, whether it be our shoulders, low back, knees even our ankles, our bodies become misaligned or subluxated. We think this happens overnight and when we want to fix it. We think we can fix it very easily, but there is more to it than meets the eye. To tackle this problem we need to look at people's faces. Click on the video below to see what I mean or look at the face above. Look at the frown on this lady. Certainly that frown did not create those wrinkles overnight. Those muscles in her forehead, they worked hard for many years to express emotion, to express a lot of different expressions to create this frown. There are ways to paralyze those muscles and the wrinkles goes away but when the affects of paralyzing the muscles with botox disappear, the frown will come back. In the same way we have examined the muscles in the face, we will examine the muscles in the spine, in our neck and low back. The video below has a full illustration. By sleeping and working in a bad position, we create misalignments called subluxations and the muscles around the spine become imbalanced. Over the years these muscles create spinal distortions. The spine will bend, as you can see in the video. The muscles take a different shape and will educate themselves to be in one position. The muscles between the vertebra contract unevenly. Over the years, the muscle programs itself to be stuck in one position. Even if we adjust that vertebra out of its bad position, the muscle will pull it back because over the years it has been used to being in one position. Only after several adjustments will the body finally let go of the muscle so that it will re-educate itself. To answer your question, if you are going to a chiropractic office and you are only going because you have pain such as back pain, headache, or any other discomfort and that is your motive for going to your chiropractor then the answers is obvious. As long as the pain is there you want to continue treatment. Chiropractors are good at treating and managing pain, and when the pain goes away you go away. If that's all you want, there is nothing wrong with that. We love to serve you in this way. You can even come back a couple of more times just to prevent the pain from coming back. If you are going to your chiropractor for more fundamental changes, like a straighter posture or wanting to get rid of the misalignments that interfere with the communication between your brain and your organs and the coordination of all your organs then you might consider going with a mid to long term plan. Let me give you an analogy. Imagine you go to the gym because you want to build six-pack abs. If you go once a week, do you think you will have built a six-pack? Absolutely not. You need to go at least three times a week to see any kind of difference. The consistence and frequency with which you go to the gym determines how effectively you can educate your muscles. We can learn from babies. They repeat something until they master it. When they start walking, they practice as much as they are allowed until they master it. They pronounce words over and over again, even if they mispronounce them until they can talk. The same way, you need to go to the chiropractor until your spine is completely straight and completely balanced and your muscles are completely re-educated. "Dis-ease is a deficiency of Force." Dr. Isaac Jennings Universal forces are constant. Universal forces cause constant breakdown of the body. Breakdown is virtually effortless. Innate forces are constant. Innate forces create constant repair to the body. Repair requires enormous energy. When innate forces exceed Universal forces, the body is in a constructive state of well-being. When Universal forces exceed Innate forces, the body is in a destructive state of dis-ease. Vertebral subluxation is caused by Universal forces and obstructs the transmission of Innate forces. Chiropractic adjustments restore transmission of Innate forces. Subluxation robs the body if focus to think, organization to metabolize, and power to heal. Dr. Roger Sperry, 1980 Nobel Prize recipient for brain research, demonstrated that 90% of the energy output of the brain is used in relating the physical body to gravity. Only 10% has to do with thinking, metabolism and healing. Dr. Masoud Shamaeizadeh of Soft Touch Chiropractic in Porter Ranch shares this transcript originally from Dr. Jennings with each new patient.
Chiropractic benefit to the Joints in the Extremities
Sure, you know that chiropractic alleviates dysfunction in the spine that may
impede nervous system activity. And you know that chiropractic care wards off disability in the hips, back and neck as well. You are probably also aware that this drug-free approach to health averts headaches, jaw pain and fibromyalgia. But did you know that chiropractic offers effective correction for problems in the joints of the upper and lower limbs (extremities)? Dr. Shamaeizadeh of Soft Touch Chiropractic in Porter Ranch, CA, addresses maladies affecting the ankles, knees, wrists, elbows and shoulders with a multifaceted approach. First, alignment in the extremities is influenced by spinal posture. Consequently, a misaligned spine may spark a chain reaction that throws limbs slightly out of balance, leading to uneven wear on joints. Dr. Shamaeizadeh examines the spine for areas where movement is restricted or spinal bones (vertebrae) are slightly out of place. These dysfunctional segments are called vertebral subluxations. This condition is corrected with specialized, gentle maneuvers called chiropractic adjustments. Next, chiropractic care targets the specific joint involved. This may include gentle adjustments to or manipulation of the joint. It may also involve physiotherapy techniques or exercises custom tailored to the patient’s unique circumstances. In addition, ergonomic advice is a common component of an extremity care plan. And nutrition and stress reduction are often also inte- grated into this revolutionary approach to health. How effective is chiropractic at alleviating problems with joints in the extremities? Following is a compilation of cutting-edge research on how chiropractic care benefits particular joints. Wonderful Wrists A growing body of research indicates that chiropractic care is a winning solution for wrist pain due to carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and the lesser- known conditions that mimic it. In one experiment, doctors at Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Bloomington, Minn., followed 96 individuals with CTS. The patients received either medical or chiropractic intervention. Medical treatment consisted of medication (ibuprofen) and nighttime wrist supports. Chiropractic care included adjustments to the wrist and spine, ultrasound therapy and nighttime wrist supports. Findings showed that the drug-free chiropractic approach was as effective as medical treatment, without the potentially hazardous side effects of painkillers (J Manipulative PhysiolTherapy 1998;21:317-26).Chiropractic care is also effective for the lesser-known disorders that are often misdiagnosed as CTS. One such condition is ulnar tunnel syndrome (UTS). One scientific case study tracked a 45-year-old woman with UTS. Her symptoms resolved following four chiropractic visits during which she received wrist adjustments (J Manipulative Physiol Ther2003;26:602-7). Excellent Elbows Chiropractic adjustments alleviate common elbow problems, such as“tennis elbow” (lateral epicondylitis) and “golfer’s elbow” (medial epicondylitis).Research conducted at The University of Queensland in St. Lucia, Australia reveals that a specific type of adjustment to the elbow produces an immediate and dramatic drop in pain for patients with tennis elbow. As part of the study, researchers tested pain-free grip strength in 24 patients before and after receiving manipulation to the elbow or a placebo procedure.Findings showed “a significant and substantial increase in pain-free grip strength of 58 percent” during treatment but not during placebo and control (Man Therapy 2003;6:205-12).Another case study examined a woman with elbow pain triggered by repetitive work activities. A course of chiropractic adjustments to the elbow joint ended the woman’s pain and increased motion in the joint (J Manipulative Physiol Therapy 2000;23:619-22). And, in another analysis, 24 patients with long-term elbow pain received either a placebo treatment or manipulative therapy. Findings showed “a significant and substantial increase” in the pain-free grip strength of 58 percent during treatment — but not during placebo or non treatment phases (Manual Therapy 2001;6:205-12). Curiously, adjustments to the wrist may also keep elbow conditions at bay. One experiment enrolled 28 patients with tennis elbow. The subjects received either manipulation of the wrist or a standard physical therapy protocol (ultrasound, friction massage, muscle stretching and strengthening exercises). After three weeks of intervention, the success rate among manipulation recipients was 62 percent, compared with 20 percent in the physical therapy group. After six weeks, the manipulation group reported significantly greater improvement in pain, compared with the physical therapy recipients (5.2 out of 11 vs. 3.2 out of 11,respectively). The good bacteria that live in your gut are a blessing for your health. The undigested food that stays in your gut for long periods of time, on the other hand, can lead to inflammation such as arthritis. Here at Soft Touch Chiropractic in Porter Ranch, CA, Dr. Masoud Shamaeizadeh, DC advises his patients to take probiotics to prevent arthritis.
Scientists have known for some time that good bacteria in the gut helps us digest our food. Now, a new study suggest that good bacteria, also known as probiotics, helps prevent rheumatoid arthritis. The study also shows a correlation between the amount of bad bacteria in a gut and the existence of arthritis in a person. The way to introduce probiotics into the gut are as follows: 1. The most effective way is to consume fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi and others. 2. Fermented drinks such as kombucha also introduce probiotics to the gut. 3. Probiotic pills are also a great way to increase the good bacteria that digests food properly and prevents inflammation. If you already have arthritis, it is not too late to start taking probiotics. In order to create an environment where probiotics will stay alive: 1. Eat a primarily plant-based diet. Raw veggies are the best because they provide the fiber that probiotics need to thrive. 2. Stay away from antibiotics as much as possible. Antibiotic medication not only kills bad bacteria, it also kills the good bacteria. Watch the video below to learn more. Have You Been in a T-Bone Car Accident?
What To Do About It Whiplash is the first thing that comes to mind when people talk about car accidents. Whiplash is when the head is violently thrust forward and snaps back during a car accident. Event though damage can be serious, our bodies do have a mechanism to protect itself in case of whiplash; certain joints in the neck are positioned in a way that they act like breaks and stop the neck from going back any further. However, during a side-impact accident (aka t-bone accident) our bodies have very limited protection; this is why t-bone accidents register a higher number of fatalities. Usually the vertebra in a joint will mis-align to one side during side impact and that misalignment interferes with blood flow and nerve function. The problem in any car accident is that the large muscles in the neck spasm and stress and that prevents a clear detection of a misalignment. Sometimes the misalignment goes undetected and neglected for years which brings about other health issues. A professional doctor of chiropractic can detect this misalignment even years after it has happened. In my practice, Soft Touch Chiropractic in Porter Ranch, CA, I have seen patients whose misaligned neck joints were not detected immediately after a car accident. If you have been in a auto accident and you have been simply prescribed pain medication, we strongly urge you to see your chiropractor and get examined.
