We've all heard it. The cracking of joints, either ours or someone else's. What is making the cracking noise? The short answer is that there is an exchange of gases when the joint is moved or adjusted. Expansion of the synovial membrane inside the joint will release nitrogen gas trapped inside. Why is there nitrogen gas trapped in the joints? Because the proteins inside the joints degenerate into amino acids and then further into amin group and lastly they break down into nitrogen gas. The more the joint is fixated or stressed (aka sublaxated) the more degeneration is happening there. Dr. Masoud Shamaeizadeh's DC goal here at Soft Touch Chiropractic in Porter Ranch is to relieve joint stress and introduce motion.
