By Dr. Masoud Shamaeizadeh If you have pain when you bend to the sides, especially low back pain caused by a bulged disc, one the best ways to clean yourself after using the bathroom is to use a shower head if your bathroom has shower close to the toilet or install a bidet toilet attachment. What is the best way to get up from the bed?The best way to get out of bed while having back pain is to turn to the side that is less painful. Put the foot that is closest to the bed closer to the floor first. Using the elbow that is on the bed, push slowly to a sitting position on the bed. Use a cane or a sturdy piece of furniture close by to aid in lifting up. It is best to get help from others to avoid having to bend down, but if it is absolutely imperative that you do so, first get creative! You might use a grabber (see picture below) or a long stick. By Dr. Masoud Shamaeizadeh We chiropractors used to tell our lower back pain patients to stay in bed until they got better. However, in recent years we noticed that this model of home care was not the best advise for our patients. Because our body is basically created by design to move, we need to understand that a lot of our body's functions are dependent on our movement to preform well. By design, each function creates new functions that are essential for our wellness and healing. Even medical doctors realized this, so after each surgery they ask their patients to move and walk as soon as they can. So even in the worse cases, we tell our patients to start walking after two or three days. Last month I experienced the worst back pain in my life; now one thing is telling some else to get out bed after two or three days and another thing is doing it myself so I had to do what I preach based on what I knew was the best thing to do! Although it was very difficult for me to get up and walk, even with help of a cane, I did it. To my astonishment, healing accelerated to the point that a few days later I could go back to work, see patients and even perform chiropractic adjustments! Apple Sauce and Soaked Raw Almonds 2 cups almonds 4 apples 1 tsp. ground cinnamon STEP 1 Soak raw almonds in purified water overnight or 8 hours. In the morning, rinse almonds and refrigerate. Optional: peel the almonds Almonds will last three days in refrigerator. STEP 2 Peel and core apples. Put apples in food processor with cinammon powder. I asked him if he had taken the other driver's insurance information; to my astonishment he said "no". As first time parents my wife and I were very careful with every move we made while handling our baby girl. When she was only a few weeks old, we noticed that every time my wife breastfed the baby on the left side the baby would cry and refuse to eat. She would only eat while lying on her right side. We took the baby to the pediatrician MD, but he and his staff said it was normal and we shouldn't worry about it; when the problem got worse we hired a breastfeeding specialist from La Leche League. The specialist showed us how to keep the baby in the same position on both breasts, then we noticed the problem got worse when we laid the baby on her left side. Finally we decided to take our baby girl to a pediatric chiropractor. Upon examining the baby the chiropractor found that the baby's left shoulder was out of alignment. He explained to us that this very common problem in newborns is called shoulder dystocia. After a gentle adjustment on the baby's shoulder and neck the baby made a sound of relief and fell asleep with a smile on her face. I am a chiropractor, but I failed to recognize the problem because I was listening to sources that were not dealing with the cause of my daughter's problem; they were just giving us band-aid solutions. When we had our second baby, we didn't wait to see any symptoms of misalignment, we just took him to the chiropractor three days after he arrived to us.
