sounds while I was urinating. It quickly became clear that I had likely passed kidney stones.
At first, I felt relieved. I assumed the problem had resolved itself.
However, later that day after I went home, I developed a high fever. Naturally, I became concerned and went to the emergency room because I suspected I might have an infection.
The emergency doctor prescribed antibiotics and told me everything would be fine.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t.
When the Antibiotics Made Things WorseTwo weeks later, the fever returned.
I went back to the emergency room and was given a stronger antibiotic: Cipro (ciprofloxacin).
What we didn’t know at the time was that I was allergic to it.
My body went into severe allergic shock.
Shortly afterward, I completely lost the ability to urinate.
I ended up back in the hospital.
A Dangerous Situation in the HospitalDuring a virtual appointment with my primary care doctor, blood tests revealed something alarming. I was told to go to the hospital immediately.
When I arrived, the hospital team began preparing me for kidney dialysis.
As a chiropractor and healthcare professional, something about the situation didn’t feel right.
So I calmly asked a simple question:
“Wouldn't it be better to check my bladder first before starting dialysis?”
After insisting that they examine my bladder, the medical team discovered something shocking.
My bladder was almost ready to rupture.
Once they inserted a catheter, a massive amount of fluid drained out immediately. The pressure had been building inside my bladder, not my kidneys.
The dialysis was immediately canceled.
The Diagnosis: Prostate SurgeryDuring my hospital stay, four different doctors visited me.
All of them reached the same conclusion:
My prostate was severely inflamed, and I would likely need prostate surgery.
When I was discharged, I went to a urologist who confirmed the same recommendation.
Surgery.
At that moment, I felt deeply discouraged.
Prostate surgery is not a small procedure. It can affect:

Urinary function

Sexual health

Quality of life

 I felt defeated.
The Question That Changed EverythingMy wife saw how depressed I had become.
She then asked me a question that completely shifted my thinking.
She said:
“How many times have patients come into your chiropractic office after being told they needed surgery, and you helped them recover without it?”
I answered honestly.
“Many times.”
Then she asked again:
“Did they actually need surgery?”
“No.”
Then she asked the most important question of all:
“If you walked into your own office as a patient, what would you recommend?”
I paused.
Then I answered:
“I would tell myself to try every natural option first before letting someone operate on me.”
That was the moment everything changed.
My Four-Week Natural ExperimentI had an appointment scheduled in four weeks for a painful diagnostic procedure where a camera would be inserted through the urethra to examine the prostate before surgery.
So I made a decision.
I would give myself four weeks.
If I was not at least 50% better, I would proceed with the medical procedure.
But during those four weeks, I would commit fully to a natural healing approach.
Regaining Control with Intermittent CathetersFortunately, the doctor offered an alternative to a permanent catheter.
Instead, I could use disposable catheters when needed.
This gave me something extremely important:
Control and feedback.
With a permanent catheter, I would have no idea if I was improving. But with intermittent catheters, I could monitor my ability to urinate and track my progress.
The Green Juice ProtocolMy wife and I began a strict nutrition protocol focused on fresh green juices.
Every day I consumed juices made from:

Parsley

Cilantro

Celery

Apple

Ginger

Turmeric

Cucumber

Instead of traditional meals, I primarily drank these nutrient-dense juices.
Occasionally I would eat small amounts of whole food such as:

One boiled egg

A potato

But the majority of my nutrition came from anti-inflammatory green juices.

The Results Were Faster Than ExpectedI expected it might take four weeks to see improvement.
But the results came much faster.
After two weeks:
I was already 80% better.
By the four-week mark:
I was 90% improved.
When the appointment arrived for the painful diagnostic procedure, I canceled it.
I also canceled the surgical plan.
Continued Healing About 10% of symptoms still remained, so my wife suggested getting a second opinion from another urologist.
Because I had HMO insurance, the earliest available appointment was four months later.
During those months, I continued the green juice routine.
Something remarkable happened.
My urinary function continued improving.
By the time those months passed, I was actually urinating better than before the entire problem started.
What This Experience Taught MeThis experience taught me several powerful lessons:
1. Always Ask QuestionsDoctors are human. They can miss important details.
If I had not asked them to check my bladder, I might have undergone unnecessary dialysis.
2. Surgery Should Often Be the Last OptionMany conditions improve when the body is given the right environment to heal.
3. Nutrition Can Be Extremely Powerful Fresh vegetable juices provide concentrated nutrients that can reduce inflammation and support healing.
4. Patients Must Be Advocates for Their Own HealthNo one cares about your health more than you do.
The Power of Natural HealingThis story is not about rejecting modern medicine.
Modern medicine saved my life by diagnosing the urinary blockage and relieving the pressure on my bladder.
But this experience reminded me that true healing often requires more than medication or surgery.
Sometimes the body simply needs:

Better nutrition

Reduced inflammation

Time to heal

And in my case, green juice made the difference.
Final ThoughtsToday, I remain incredibly grateful for the outcome.
What looked like a future prostate surgery turned into a powerful reminder of the body's ability to recover when given the right tools.
Sometimes the most powerful medicine isn't found in a pharmacy.
Sometimes it comes straight from nature.

“Why Women’s Headaches Are Often Misdiagnosed as Migraines — How Neck and Muscle Tension Could Be the Real Culprit”

https://www.porterranchchiropractic.net/blog/are-womens-headaches-being-misdiagnosed-as-migraines

https://www.porterranchchiropractic.net/blog/are-womens-headaches-being-misdiagnosed-as-migraines#comments

Uncategorized

Many women walk into a healthcare office with one main complaint:“I’ve been having headaches.”Too often, the automatic response is:“It’s probably migraine.”While migraines are common in women, not every headache is a migraine. Then we’ll explore one of the most overlooked yet powerful ways to combat stress: maintaining an aligned spine.

🔥 Stress, Anger & Sadness Aren’t Just Feelings — They Impact Your BrainWhen you’re angry or emotionally charged, your nervous system activates the fight or flight response — increasing heart rate, muscle tension, and stress hormones while temporarily reducing the activity of rational, higher-order brain regions. This isn’t just anecdotal — prolonged anger and stress can actually make decision-making and logical thinking harder in the moment. (Verywell Mind)
Scientific studies show that:

Stress correlates negatively with emotional intelligence (EI) — the better you regulate emotions, the stronger your emotional and cognitive performance. Conversely, high stress — especially anger — is linked with poorer emotional regulation, which correlates with lower IQ test performance. (PMC)

Sadness and depressive symptoms are associated with declines in cognitive functions such as memory and executive processing. Research following adults over years found that higher levels of anxiety and depression are linked to declines in key cognitive domains as people age. (PMC)

The takeaway? Your emotional health is directly tied to your cognitive functioning — including areas of the brain involved in reasoning, memory, and attention. Chronic stress doesn’t just feel bad — it makes your brain work harder and less efficiently.

🧠 Why High Emotional Charges (Anger, Depression & Sadness) Hit Your IQWhen your body perceives threat — even psychological threat — the amygdala (your emotional alarm center) lights up. At the same time, the prefrontal cortex (responsible for planning and reasoning) becomes less active. This shift isn’t just temporary; if triggered often, it becomes a pattern that makes clear thinking harder and decreases working memory and problem-solving skills. (Verywell Mind)
In simpler words:
👉 The more frequently you’re angry, frustrated, sad, or depressed, the harder your brain has to work — and the more your IQ performance can drop during those episodes. (PMC)
The good news? You can influence this — with habits, mindfulness, lifestyle, and yes — with better physical alignment.

🌀 Stress Isn’t Just in Your Head — It Shows Up in Your BodyLook at stress as a whole-body phenomenon. Chronic emotional stress activates your sympathetic nervous system (“fight or flight”), raising cortisol and tension throughout your body — especially in your neck, back, shoulders, and pelvis. That physical tension feeds back into your nervous system and exacerbates emotional stress. This creates a loop that strengthens stress patterns — mentally, physically, and emotionally.

oscience points in this post!

Why an Aligned Spine Helps You Manage Stress — And Your Brain
Most people think of chiropractic care as back pain treatment. But your spine is so much more:
1. A Better-Aligned Spine Improves Nervous System FunctionYour spine houses and protects your spinal cord — the main communication highway between your brain and body. Misalignments can interfere with nerve signals that regulate stress responses. Chiropractic adjustments help restore smooth communication and balance between the sympathetic (“stress”) and parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) systems. (Dr. Narson)
2. Spinal Care Can Reduce Stress Hormones Studies show spinal adjustments may:

Reduce cortisol, a key marker of chronic stress

Increase neurotrophic factors like BDNF (which supports brain health and neuroplasticity)

Influence neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which regulate mood. (PMC)

3. Improved Posture = Reduced StressPoor posture doesn’t just strain your muscles; it sends stress signals to your brain. Upright posture and alignment boost confidence, improve breathing, and decrease muscle tension — all of which promote calmer emotional states. (Chiropractic Fitness)
4. Enhanced Emotional Resilience Patients often report:
✔ Less emotional reactivity
✔ Better sleep
✔ Improved focus
✔ Reduced muscle tension and headaches
— all of which support emotional regulation and clearer thinking. (Rodgers Stein Chiropractic)

✅ A Simple Truth for 2026: You Are Not Just Your Mind — You Are Your Body, TooIn 2025, science is clear:

Stress affects your brain and body — not just your mood.

Anger, prolonged sadness, and emotional overload can lower cognitive performance. (<a cognitive health.

Taking care of your spine isn’t just about pain relief — it’s about strengthening your nervous system resilience and supporting your mental and emotional well-being.

Your Next Step If stress, emotional overwhelm, or decreased mental clarity has been holding you back:
👉 Schedule a spinal alignment assessment with a trusted chiropractor.
👉 Pair spinal care with lifestyle strategies like mindful movement, sleep hygiene, and emotional awareness practices.
👉 Invest in your nervous system — from the inside out.
Let 2026 be the year you take control of stress — not just in your mind, but in your body and brain as a whole.

Presented by
Dr. mind, and spirit move out of stress and into alignment.
At the center of this process is the cell, the nervous system, and the beliefs that shape our internal environment.

The Cell’s Two Operating Modes: Protection vs. ReproductionAccording to Dr. Bruce Lipton, author of The Biology of Belief, cells function in only one of two modes at any given time:
🔴 Protective Mode (High Stress)When the body perceives danger—physical, emotional, or chemical—the nervous system activates survival responses.
In this state:

Cells shut down growth and repair

Energy is diverted away from healing

Immune function weakens

Digestion and regeneration slow

Inflammation and pain increase

This response is lifesaving in emergencies—but damaging when it becomes chronic.
A cell cannot be in growth and protection at the same time.
— Dr. Bruce Lipton

🟢 Reproductive (Healing) Mode (Low Stress)When stress is reduced and safety is perceived, cells shift into growth and repair mode.
In this state:

Tissues regenerate

The immune system strengthens

Hormonal balance improves

Inflammation decreases

The body expresses its full healing potential

This is the biological state where true healing occurs.

The Nervous System: The Gateway to HealingThe nervous system is the master regulator that decides whether your body is in survival or healing.

Chronic stress → Protective mode

Calm, safety, and coherence → Healing mode

This is why chiropractic care is so powerful.

The Art of Chiropractic: Reducing Stress, Restoring CommunicationChiropractic is not about “fixing” the body—it is about removing interference so the body can heal itself.
At Soft Touch Chiropractic, our focus is to:

Reduce stress on the nervous system

Restore proper brain–body communication

Help the body transition from protection to reproduction (healing) mode

Why Gentle Chiropractic Care MattersGentle, precise adjustments allow the nervous system to relax instead of defend.
When the body feels safe:

Muscles heal

Meditation, Faith, and Belief: The Missing Link in Healing Beyond physical stress, mental and emotional stress powerfully influence cellular behavior.
The Science of Meditation and BeliefIn You Are the Placebo, Dr. Joe Dispenza demonstrates that focused meditation and belief can:

Change brainwave patterns

Reduce stress hormones

Activate healing-related neural circuits

<font response, the body naturally shifts into reproductive (healing) mode.

Faith, God, and Convicted Belief in HealingA reasonable, grounded relationship with God and a convicted belief in healing can profoundly affect recovery.
Faith provides:

A sense of safety and meaning

Emotional regulation

Reduced fear and anxiety

Hope and expectancy—key chiropractic care—it enhances it.

You Are Not “Just Thinking Positive”—You Are Changing BiologyBelief is not imaginary.
Meditation is not passive.
Faith is not merely emotional.
They all influence:

The nervous system

Hormonal However, they differ significantly in how they feel, how force is delivered, and *which patients benefit most from each method.

Understanding Traditional Chiropractic Manipulation (Manual Adjustment)Traditional chiropractic manipulation—often called High-Velocity, Low-Amplitude (HVLA) adjustment—is a hands-on technique where the chiropractor applies a quick, controlled thrust to a specific spinal joint.
Key characteristics:

Often produces an audible cavitation (the familiar “pop” or “crack”)

Involves joint gapping and rapid stretch of surrounding tissues

Strong sensory feedback to the nervous system

From a scientific perspective, the audible sound is caused by a rapid pressure change within the joint, leading to gas release from the synovial fluid. While many patients associate this sound with effectiveness, the sound itself is not the treatment—it is simply a byproduct of joint movement.
Manual manipulation can be highly effective, especially for patients who enjoy hands-on care and feel reassured by the audible release.

What Is Instrument-Assisted Chiropractic Adjustment?Instrument-assisted adjustment uses a handheld mechanical device (such as an Activator-style instrument) to deliver a precise, low-force, high-speed impulse to a targeted spinal segment.
Key characteristics:

Extremely gentle and controlled

No joint twisting or sudden body movement

Often no audible sound

Many patients feel little or nothing at all

Despite the subtle sensation, instrument adjustments create a rapid mechanical stimulus that activates joint and muscle mechanoreceptors. This stimulation influences spinal reflexes, muscle tone, and nervous system regulation--the same neurological pathways affected by manual adjustments, but with significantly less force.

Why Gentle Can Be More Effective
One of the most important—and often misunderstood—facts in chiropractic care is this:
More force does not mean more effective adjustment.
When the body is relaxed, the nervous system is more receptive to corrective input. Because instrument adjustments are so gentle, patients do not guard or tense their muscles. This allows the adjustment to work with the nervous system rather than against it.
Clinical studies have shown that instrument-assisted adjustments can produce outcomes comparable to manual manipulation for many spinal conditions, particularly neck pain and low back pain. The effectiveness comes from precision, timing, and neurological input, not from how strong the adjustment feels.

Why Some Patients Prefer the “Crack”It is important to acknowledge patient preference. Many individuals associate the audible release with reassurance--a feeling that something tangible has happened. This psychological component matters, and patient confidence can positively influence outcomes.
However, research consistently shows that clinical improvement does not depend on hearing a sound. In fact, some of the most neurologically effective adjustments produce no audible response at all.

Choosing the Right Technique for YouAt South Touch Chiropractic, we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Research shows instrument-assisted chiropractic adjustments can be just as effective as manual spinal manipulation for many conditions, including neck pain and low back pain. Effectiveness depends on precision and proper diagnosis—not force.
Does a chiropractic adjustment need to crack to work?
No. The audible sound (cavitation) is not required for an adjustment to be effective. Many highly effective instrument adjustments produce no sound at all.
Is instrument chiropractic adjustment safer?
Instrument adjustments use significantly lower force, making them an excellent option for seniors, patients with osteoporosis, post-surgical patients, or anyone uncomfortable with manual manipulation.
What conditions can gentle chiropractic care help?
Instrument-assisted chiropractic care may help with neck pain, back pain, sciatica, headaches, joint stiffness, muscle tension, and nervous system imbalance.
Which is better: Activator or manual chiropractic adjustment?
Neither is universally better. With over 5,000 known functions, it is constantly detoxifying, metabolizing, storing, filtering, and regulating countless processes crucial to life. Yet, despite its size and complexity, science still has not uncovered everything the liver does.
Without this organ, life would end within hours.

Why the Liver Works So Hard
The liver’s primary detoxification pathway removes harmful substances by sending them through the bile into the intestines. From there, these toxins exit the body—unless they get reabsorbed, which can disrupt digestion and place further strain on the liver.
Fortunately, nature gave the liver generous capacity. Most experts agree that the liver is six times larger than necessary for basic survival. Even more remarkable is its ability to regenerate damaged tissue. This resilience is vital because modern lifestyles—processed foods, environmental chemicals, alcohol, medications—place tremendous daily demand on the liver.

Two Types of Liver Problems Medicine typically evaluates pathological liver conditions, such as:

Viral hepatitis

Cirrhosis

Fatty liver degeneration

Advanced metabolic diseases

These conditions often appear after years of silent strain. Sadly, once structural disease is present, complete reversal is difficult.
The second category--functional overload—is where chiropractic and holistic care become essential. A functionally overwhelmed liver may not yet show disease, but its performance is impaired. Addressing this stage early can prevent more serious pathology later.

Symptoms of Liver Overload Because the liver touches so many systems, dysfunction may produce a wide variety of symptoms:
Digestive & Metabolic Symptoms

Bloating or difficulty digesting fatty foods

Constipation or diarrhea due to poor bile quality

Blood sugar instability (the liver is a major glucose regulator)

Poor absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K

Hormonal Symptoms The liver helps break down excess hormones. When sluggish, you may see:

Water retention (anti-diuretic hormone not cleared properly)

Menstrual irregularities

Mood changes

Changes in secondary sex characteristics

Other Common Symptoms

Chronic fatigue

Easy bruising or bleeding (clotting factors made in the liver)

Medication sensitivity

Chilled sensation or low vitality

Poor appetite

Nutritional deficiencies

The Spine–Liver Connection (T8) The liver receives significant autonomic (sympathetic) nerve supply from the T8 spinal segment.
