On occasion, I have had adult patients come in for chiropractic treatment at my office in Porter Ranch, CA after a car accident, who neglect to mention that their children were in the car at the time of the accident as well. Even though a child of age 0 - 12 may not exhibit symptoms of injury, it doesn't mean that their little bodies have not been affected by the impact of a car accident. My 2 year old was in the car with my wife and I when we were rear ended. Although he seemed fine, we took him to a pediatrician chiropractor who identified inflammation on his neck. His only symptom was irritability, but our chiropractor was able to spot the misalignments in his neck and spine. Misalignments during childhood, which cause stress on the spine, if gone untreated, could develop into more serious conditions as the child grows older. The effects could include chronic headaches, attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, digestive issues and other unexplained conditions. By the time a person is in the teen or adult years, its harder to make a correlation between the accident and the condition. If your child has been in a car accident, it is never too late to take him to a chiropractor. Call your local doctor of chiropractic today.
