Car Accident Trauma Needs Special AttentionVIDEO SCRIPT
When you are in a car accident or suffer a personal injury you need to know how to choose a doctor who is experienced in treating a personal injury properly. So please watch this video and listen carefully. First, the doctor needs to assess whether the injury is life-threatening or serious enough that it requires urgent care or whether it can be treated with outpatient care or corrective care. You want to make sure that the doctor you choose will take a thorough history of how the accident happened. Here are only a few questions you should expect: How did the accident happen? Where did it happen? Did you see it coming or were you surprised? How was your mental state after the injury? Were you unconscious? In other words, the doctor should take the time to record in detail what happened right before, during and after the accident all the way to the time that you walked into the doctor’s office. If a doctor is unwilling to do this or only spends a few minutes interviewing you then jumps to prescribe medication, run and find a better doctor. The doctor should also conduct a physical exam that includes checking both your joints and muscles. We call that an orthopedic exam. A doctor should check your nervous system. We call that a neurological exam. He should be able to check your posture and alignment of your joints and determine if you have any major misalignments in you joints as a result of the injury. Chiropractors are very good at this. We strongly urge you to see a doctor who will have you take x-rays and will work closely with the radiology specialist. When the doctor and radiologist work together, there is less chance for small fractures or abnormalities to be overlooked. Lastly, you want a doctor who knows how to work with a personal injury lawyer to write a thorough report that your he or she can present to the insurance company so that you are properly compensated for your pain and suffering.
