Control Your Habits or Let Your Habits Control YouAs a chiropractor in Porter Ranch, CA, I see the effects of people's habits reflected in their overall health as well as in the condition of their spine and joints; which is why I found The Power of Habit intriguing. Charles Duhigg has written a powerful book that is revealing, practical and useful for creating change in every day life. The Power of Habit begins with the study of a person who suffers amnesia but because of the power of his habits he is able to live a semi-normal life. Even though he could not count on remembering anything, his habits were deeply embedded in his subconscious to the point that his family was able to rely on those habits for this man to take care of himself. The book also reveals how retailers study consumers' habits to target their marketing campaigns accordingly. In addition, they can not only market the right products to the right consumers, they can predict future spending patterns and life events based on previous spending patterns. Habits are a powerful thing and the book shows how we can reign them in and change them to create the desired results in our lives. It ends with the assertion that habits are a choices. We can change our behavior through the creation of new habits when we choose to. Duhigg lists the following three major triggers of habits: 1. A cue that triggers the habit. For example, the end of a meal is a cue for smoking a cigarette. 2. A reward 3. A craving This book gets 4.5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it. It is a recipe for success through the creation of habits. Click the Like button below.
